GLIFY 2022-23 milestones

GLIFY had a year filled with remarkable achievements! We hosted overthirty-five diverse projects and activities for 410 active members! Notably, this past year alone, we welcomed over a hundred new members. Our members contributed 8000+ volunteer hours in various events and activities. Through hard work and dedication, more than seventy GLIFY members qualified to apply to the President’s Volunteer Service Award. GLIFY also supported FCSN, Alan Hu Foundation, Oakland Youth Center, and Kids Against Hunger among others through donations and fundraising. At GLIFY, we remain dedicated to our mission of creating a positive impact on both local and global communities. We’re proud to have sponsored four children in San Francisco through City Impact, and four Uganda Orphanage children this past year! Thanks to all the members! We’re looking forward to another great year ahead.

Fertile Groundworks

GLIFY has been partnering with Fertile Groundworks to organize volunteers to help with activities such as weeding, planting vegetables, and harvesting for several years. This project helps feed low-income citizens in the Tri-Valley area and helps supply Open Heart Kitchen. At the most recent event in August, GLIFY volunteers did something new: building and painting beehives. They also redid a walkway and weeded out buckets of weeds. Overall, they worked hard despite the hot weather and had fun.

Contra Costa Food Bank

On August 5th, GLIFY members went to Mt. Diablo High School and volunteered with the Contra Costa Food Bank in a food distribution event. Volunteers handed out bags of potatoes, celery stalks, onions, and various fruits to community members that lacked access to fresh food. It’s always a humbling experience to interact with others there, knowing that the food handed out is a necessity that’s not constantly available in their lives. From handing out items to giving a smile to the people that walked by, we hope that our volunteers were able to brighten everyone’s day.
